Tips on Finding Balance in Life

“You can never plan the future by the past.” -Edmund Burke

Authentic Decision Making

Wheel of Life:

Each of the 8 spokes represents a certain area of your life:

  • Career
  • Finances
  • Health and Fitness
  • Friends and Family
  • Significant Other (Partner or Spouse)
  • Personal Growth
  • Fun and Recreation
  • Physical Environment (e.g. Home)

Think about what your success feels like in each area.

Next, rate your level of present day satisfaction in each of the areas on a scale of 1-10.

Take the centre of the Wheel of Life as 0 (very dissatisfied) and the outermost circle as 10 (fully satisfied).

Color each area on the circle according to your level of satisfaction.

For example, if you rate your satisfaction in the field of Personal Growth as 4, then fill the 4 innermost layers in the segment of the wheel representing Personal Growth.  Similarly, if you rate your satisfaction on Health as 8, then fill 8 layers inside out in the segment representing Health.

Be Honest: No one is judging or grading this-you will need to be as honest with yourself as possible to find where you need balance and where you are successful, so you can repeat that process.

Let’s work to find your path to the balance you seek!

One of Victoria Marie’s greatest joys is being a member of Alpha Phi. She joined the Gamma Alpha chapter during her collegiate years at San Diego State University and found leadership positions within the chapter: 1st as Historian, and later as the Rush Chairwoman for the 1989 Fall Rush. Victoria Marie attempts to stay in regular contact with the Alpha Phi sisters of her time, and has participated in several of the Alumni Teas & Homecoming events. Giving back to the sisterhood is the greatest gift Victoria Marie desires. If you would like to find out more about Victoria Marie’s work, visit
